π Grand Prix Series
Our flagship racing competition
The Grand Prix is ARR’s main racing competition, running throughout the year across a selection of local road races ranging from 5K to half marathon. When we turn up as a club β which is often in force β we’re hard to miss in our blue and white vests.
Members are divided into six open leagues based on pace, plus separate Female, Female Vets, and Male Vets leagues. The open leagues use a dual scoring system that rewards both your position within your league and your pace relative to the club’s fastest finisher β so there’s always something to race for, regardless of where you finish.
Trophies are awarded to the top three in each league at the Annual Presentation Evening in February.
β±οΈ Handicap Series
Four seasonal races β the ultimate level playing field
Four races across the year β one per season β where anyone can win, regardless of ability. Our club handicapper calculates a current 10K pace for every member and uses this to set individual target times. The winner isn’t the person who finishes first; it’s the person who performs best relative to their own target.
Trophies
Trophies go to the leading man and woman at each event. The best overall performance at the Winter Handicap earns the Phil Ryder Memorial Shield; the multi-terrain winner receives the Alan Richardson Memorial Shield. Points accumulate across all four events β from 50 for the best performance down to a minimum of 10.
πΏ Trail Series
Discover trail running β beginner friendly, always an adventure
A chance to swap the road for something more interesting. We’ve put together a collection of beginner-friendly local trail races that still offer a proper challenge for more seasoned runners. The races are organised by local clubs, typically cost around Β£6, and most are between 4 and 5 miles β with a 10K in the mix too. They’re low-key, friendly events, and some even lay on food and drink afterwards.

π Volunteer League
Celebrating the people who make ARR possible
ARR runs on the time and goodwill of its members. From leading training sessions and marshalling races to helping behind the scenes, volunteers make everything we do possible. The Volunteer League is our way of recognising that contribution.
Every time you volunteer you earn points towards a live league table. Bonus points are available for key roles and major events, and we’ll celebrate achievements with shoutouts, awards, and prizes along the way.
How It Works
- Earn points for different types of volunteering
- Points tracked throughout the season
- Live league table updated regularly
- Bonus points for key roles and major events
π½ Yorkshire Vets (YVAA)
Multi-terrain, road, fell and cross country for over-35s
The Yorkshire Veterans Athletics Association (YVAA) promotes competitive athletics for veteran athletes across road, multi-terrain, cross country, fell, and track & field. Events are open to women and men aged 35+ who are members of England Athletics-affiliated clubs in Yorkshire. Runners aged 33β34 may take part as guests.
Each year YVAA runs a Grand Prix series of up to 10 multi-terrain races of approximately 10K, alongside Road, Cross Country, and Fell Championships. As an affiliated club, all eligible ARR members can enter.
π§οΈ PECO Cross Country League
West Yorkshire’s premier winter cross country league
Each winter ARR joins 24 other clubs from across West Yorkshire in the PECO Cross Country League. It’s competitive, it can be muddy, and it is absolutely open to all abilities β every finisher contributes to the team scores, so your run counts no matter where you finish.
There are separate Men’s and Women’s leagues split into Premier, Division 1 and Division 2, plus Vets leagues. Junior races over 1 or 2 miles are also held at each fixture. All events are on Sunday mornings.
