Training Sessions
We offer group runs at a variety of paces commencing at 18:30. Arrive around 15 minutes before the start time.
Details of the following week’s groups are published on the Club Members Facebook Page every weekend and on this site via the button at the top of the page.
All abilities are catered for including those new to running or building confidence and distance – look out for our ‘Jeffing’ Group – based on run/walk routine. We also offer more ‘technical’ sessions led by our coaching team – this can be on the cricket ground outfield or on local quiet roads. Details are also published weekly on the Facebook page and on this site.
Routes & Distances
Runs are generally 4-6 miles.
Summer: We take advantage of the trails and tracks around the village and include runs through the grounds around Nostell Priory.
Winter: We stick to pavements on well-lit roads in Ackworth (it’s bigger than you may think) or out and back along Wakefield Road (lighting all the way into Wakefield should you want a very long run). We do the occasional head torch run for variety. High viz gear needed for Winter training.
Disclaimer
We always endeavour to ensure our club training sessions and groups are led by EA qualified Leaders in Running Fitness (LiRF) or Coaches in Running Fitness (CiRF). On occasions where this is not possible, running groups will be led by an experienced club member who will lead the group as directed by one of our qualified coaches.
Members and prospective members are responsible for ensuring they are fit enough to take part in their chosen session or group and always participate at their own risk.

Other Training
Smaller groups arrange to meet regularly at other locations on Sunday mornings on a more ad-hoc basis with details published on the Club Members Facebook page.
The Anglers Country Park at Wintersett has been a regular meeting point for many years – with 8:30 – 9:00 start. A variety of routes through woods, along footpaths, canal towpath and quiet roads available.
Parkrun
We generally have around 100 parkrunners each week, supporting the local events at Nostell, Pontefract and Frickley in particular. Members are also keen to visit other events, some getting up very early to travel many miles whilst others have hopped on planes for international visits!
There’s a social side to parkruns as well as a competitive edge from time to time. Members are always willing to run at ‘natter’ pace as well as assisting others to gain course best times.
Support to parkrun is also through volunteering and each week we have a significant presence at all 3 local events.
